Shining a Green Light on Our Veterans in Raleigh

If you’ve taken a stroll downtown near the Justice Center lately, you may have noticed a striking emerald glow lighting up the Raleigh skyline. Wake County has illuminated the building from Nov. 4, 2026, through Veterans Day on November 11, 2026, and the new hue on the horizon carries a powerful message of gratitude for our local heroes.

This luminous display is part of Operation Greenlight, a nationwide initiative led by the National Association of Counties. As recently highlighted by RALtoday, the campaign encourages communities to display green lights as a visible, unwavering show of appreciation for our veterans. 🇺🇸 It is a symbolic way to ensure the brave men and women who have served our country know their sacrifices are seen and valued right here at home.

Beyond the gesture, there is real, tangible support at work behind the scenes. Wake County Veterans Services—a dedicated team of veterans and trained allies—is actively helping veterans and their families navigate the often-complex Department of Veterans Affairs. This includes essential assistance with benefits, disability claims, employment resources, and finding secure housing.

How Our Neighborhoods Can Get Involved

There is no better place to show support than from our own front porches. You don’t need a skyscraper to make a difference. Residents, local businesses, and neighborhood organizations are encouraged to swap out a standard bulb for a green one outside their homes or storefronts through Nov. 11, 2026.

A single green porch light can spark a meaningful conversation, raise awareness, and serve as a beacon of gratitude to the veterans in our local neighborhoods. Let’s light up Raleigh and show our patriots that they are always welcome and never forgotten.
